It's become a tradition in Malverne and West Hempstead to kick off Super Bowl Sunday each year by tackling a plate of pancakes.

Both the West Hempstead Lions Club and Our Lady of Lourdes School in Malverne each hosted special breakfast fundraisers on Feb. 5. Families piled into the cafeteria of West Hempstead High School and the basement of O.L.L. to fill their bellies with eggs, sausage and griddle cakes before watching the big game.

The locals also engaged in some friendly competition of their own for raffle prizes and youngsters at the Lourdes' event were entertained by a professional juggler.
