Rams On the Loose in West Hempstead [Photos]

Be on the lookout for these animals in local businesses.

It looks like a stampede of rams has escaped West Hempstead High School and is on the loose in the local business district. Ofcourse, we don't mean actual horned beasts, but rather some creative wooden cut-outs featuring the West Hempstead school district's mascot.  West Hempstead High School Art students worked with the Beautification Committee of the West Hempstead Chamber of Commerce to craft these Rams, which were on display at West Hempstead SHINES last month. After the event, the Chamber reached out to its members and some agreed to place them in their local businesses to foster community involvement and pride for the schools. You can find them at Venus Restaurant, Phoenix Wellness Center, Riesterer's Bakery, and the West Hempstead …

Two Rams were also recently spotted in the West Hempstead Seven 11s on Hempstead Ave and Hempstead Turnpike respectively. Another was spotted at the law office of Matthew Brew & Associates. Much Thanks to Ms. Pamela Gordon and the Art Dept., of course the students and Mrs. DiMiceli for this great community initiative!   more ›

PHOTOS: OLL Brings to Life Stations of the Cross

Parishioners follow along as members of Our Lady of Lourdes' youth ministry act out Jesus' final hours.

A large crowd of Catholics, young and old, processed around Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Malverne Friday afternoon, taking the same journey that their Lord did when he died on the cross. They followed along as teenagers from the parish's Youth Ministry acted out the Stations of the Cross -14 scenes, called "stations," that tell the story of how Jesus Christ came to be crucified and buried in a tomb, where he later rose from the dead, according to Scriptures. Dressed in costumes, including a crown of thorns worn by the actor playing the role of Jesus, the teens started on the steps of the church's rectory. There they depicted the first station - Jesus is condemned to death.  As they continued down Sheehy Place, passing by OLL School, the …
