LARCENIES Tires and rims were stolen off of three vehicles that had been parked in West Hempstead and Elmont between May 9 and May 10. Firefighters respond to car fire on West Hempstead-Franklin Square border.
The driver of a small sedan was able to escape his car just before it burst into flames late Wednesday afternoon on the West Hempstead-Franklin Square border. Franklin Square firefighters arrived quickly at the scene near Willow Road and extinguished the blaze. Nassau County Police also responded. The driver did not sustain any injuries.

A six-year-old Lakeview girl who nearly drowned in her neighbor's pool was saved Sunday afternoon by the quick response of police and local volunteers. The Lakeview Fire Department's ambulance was driving back from Winthrop Hospital after responding to an earlier call, when it was flagged down by a Nassau County Police officer who was looking for an address, Lakeview Fire Chief Heather Senti told Patch. The volunteers inside the ambulance, as well as Senti and Assistant Fire Chief Sal Sinatro, responded to a home on Smith Street in Lakeview. Cops report that a group of men allegedly stole the boys' jewelry, sneakers and cell phones.
Two teenage boys were reportedly robbed at gunpoint by a group of males while they were walking to the bus stop in Lakeview. According to police, the robbery occurred near Tanglewood Road around 10 p.m. Thursday night. The two victims, ages 14 and 17, allegedly had their jewelry, sneakers and cell phones taken by a group of four or five unknown males. The subjects had bandanas covering their faces and fled northbound on Tanglewood Road, police reported. No additional description of the subjects is available at this time. The first realignment in Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano's police precinct restructuring took effect this week after the Eighth Precinct in Levittown was absorbed by the Second Precinct in Woodbury. The former Eighth Precinct is now the county's first community policing center.
