'Trooper' T.V. Series Films in West Hempstead [Photos]

New CBS crime drama shoots scene in parking lot of National Wholesale Liquidators Friday.

The parking lot of National Wholesale Liquidators in West Hempstead was transformed into a T.V. set Friday afternoon. The place was abuzz with actors, trailers, food trucks and filming equipment on March 16 as Jerry Bruckheimer’s latest CBS crime-drama project, "Trooper," shot some scenes at the location as well as on Willets Avenue near Morton Avenue in West Hempstead later that evening. The T.V. series stars Academy Award-winning actress Mira Sorvino as a “common-sense mother-turned-New York state trooper," according to the Hollywood Reporter. The Wantagh-Seaford Patch reported earlier today that Bruckheimer’s Bonanza Productions will be using a vacant Seaford elementary school as a staging area next week when it films a scene on the …

Hempstead Turnpike Claims More Lives, 'Most Dangerous' Title For Fourth Year

For the fourth consecutive year, Route 24 tops the Tri-State Transportation Council's list of "Most Dangerous Roads for Walking."

The stretch of Hempstead Turnpike that runs through West Hempstead is part of the deadliest roadway in all the Tri-State area. It probably comes as no surprise to Malverne-West Hempstead Patch readers that the turnpike, or Route 24, is a pedestrian's worst nightmare. The Tri-State Transportation Council, which released its latest report on the "Most Dangerous Roads for Walking" in downstate New York, New Jersey and Connecticut earlier this month gave Hempstead Turnpike the title of the worst for the fourth consecutive year. Since the Council began this initiative, the Turnpike has topped its list, claiming the lives of 15 pedestrians from 2008 to 2010, according to TSTC's analysis of data from the National Highway Traffic Safety …

The West Hempstead school district is stepping up efforts to improvement student achievement as it embraces the new Common Core State Standards (CCSS) that schools across New York must implement by 2014. The standards, which most states have adopted, were developed in English Language Arts, Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science, and Technical Subjects and Mathematics, to ensure all students are consistently receiving a high-quality education that prepares them for college and the workforce. Lakeview Man Arrested for Multiple Nassau Bank Robberies

Suspect charged with three robberies and one attempted robbery, including one in West Hempstead.

Nassau Police have arrested a Lakeview man allegedly responsible for several bank robberies in Nassau County, including the Jan. 12 incident at Capital One in West Hempstead. The Robbery Squad arrested Frank Jackson, 47, on Friday in Hempstead without incident.   Jackson is charged with three counts of Robbery 3rd Degree, one count of Attempted Robbery 3rd Degree and False Personation. He will be arraigned on Sunday in First District Court in Hempstead. One of those robberies occurred at Roslyn Savings Bank in East Meadow on Jan. 9. No customers were present at the time of that robbery, according to police, and no injuries were reported. The other robbery occurred in Freeport on Nov. 22, 2011.
